My love for dogs has always been strong and unwavering. I recall cuddling Toto (my mixed Chow back in Vietnam) while my mother prepared a hearty dinner. That was so long ago…It was quite an ordinary evening during the fall of 96’. I was preparing dinner as my son returned from a tutoring session. During dinner, he seemed preoccupied with his thoughts. With a minimal amount of motherly mind probing, he confessed that he was in love… with a tiny, white, hairy, cuddly, simply irresistible creature. My son was in love with a Maltese. I was intrigued by how much my son was fascinated by this dog. As I researched the breed, I too was entranced.

The first Maltese to join our family was "Malta". She was my Christmas contribution: little did we know that a new chapter of our lives were about to begin. The joy and love this little Maltese has blessed us with is immeasurable. She is truly priceless. Malta immediately clung to our hearts and never let go. Her burning love and insatiable appetite for attention made us realize that we could not deny her company, even for a short while.

A few months later, a second furry white creature galloped across the plains of white carpet. His name is "Maltino", the grandson of Ch. Rebecca’s Desert Valentino. Though a little mischievous at times, my son at once found a tight bond with Maltino. Whenever my son roams the house, doing whatever teenagers do these days… the "trouble-maker" happily frolics behind. Showing or breeding Maltese never really crossed my mind. But after our dynamic duo developed straight silky hair, beautiful eyes, short little noses, and loving personalities…

My Maltese have enriched our lives to such a great extent. I could not even bear to live without them. After placing our puppies in good homes, I found a deep void inside my soul. I cried while letting the puppies go and cried harder thinking about it. My son noticed how sad I had become if I were not clenching a baby Maltese, giving all the love it could handle. I once spoke to my son, stating my intentions of showing/breeding Maltese following retirement

"Mom, why don’t you breed Maltese a little right now, why wait?" he said.

I consider myself a novice, depending on my friends and advisors who have vast knowledge of the breed to help. Ch. Marcris Angel Omen’s Michele is my first purchased female champion from Joyce Watkins. Ch. Su-Le Sun-Blossom (Sunny) was obtained from Barbara Bergquist as a show quality puppy. Sunny was shown and finished by Tonia Holibaugh. The top-notch stud dog of the family is Marcris Risqué Justice (son of Marcris Risqué Business) who came home with us when he was merely six months old, but was finished by Tonia Holibaugh within two months. Justice was not even a year old at the time.

This was just the first chapter of our lives with Maltese. The playful barks, the galloping herds, and occasional skirmishes between brothers and sisters shall be remembered forever in our minds, our hearts, and our souls. A novel awaits our lives.
